Neighbourhoods
New York City is a city with five boroughs, 59 community districts and hundreds of neighbourhoods. At: Five Boroughs more information on the five boroughs can be found.
I have listed some of the neighbourhoods which are worth a visit in my opinion (mainly located in Manhattan). This aren't all the neighbourhoods of New York City, a lot of information on every neighbourhood can be found on the internet. For specific information on a certain neighbourhood don't hesitate and please: contact me. The neighbourhoods listed are my personal faves!

Soho , Manhattan
Soho is short for South of Houstion (street). Soho is located in lower Manhattan. It is the perfect neighborhood to shop, grab a coffee in a trendy cafe and visit art galleries. An interesting way to discover Soho is with a guided tour, a shopping tour or a food tour. Many big fashion brands are located in Soho and also a lot of small designer shops. Soho is a very safe neighborhood and at night several fancy bars can be visited.

Little Italy and Nolita, Manhattan
Little Italy is a small neighborhood with an Italian culture. The Little Italy sign can be found at 177 Hester St. The street is decorated with Italian flags and mostly Italian restaurants are located here. In Little Italy you can find busy and over-priced Italian restaurants. When you want to eat high quality Italian food with less tourists you definitely should visit NoLita. NoLita is short for North of Little Italy. NoLita is not specifically known for the Italian culture. Nowadays NoLita is known for its fashion boutiques and fancy restaurants.
Fun fact: The oldest pizzeria of the United States of America can be found in Nolita. It is called Lombardi's Pizza and is located at 32 Spring St.

Greenwich Village, Manhattan
Greenwich Village, also called West Village or 'the Village' is a large neighborhood located at the West side of Lower Manhattan. No skyscrapers are located in Greenwich Village. When you enter the neighborhood it feels like you're entering a tiny village and leave the crowded New York City. In the west part of Greenwich Village you find a popular park named Washington Square park (more information on parks: Highlights - Parks) Next to Washington Square park the New York University (NYU) is situated, a very well-known university. In Greenwich Village there are less tourists and more locals, visiting the Village gives you a relaxed break in your visit to the Big Apple

East Village, Manhattan
East Village is located at the East side of Lower Manhattan. It is an interesting place to discover as a tourist because not many tourists visit it so you will feel like you're a local. Skyscrapers or big fashion brands are not located in the East Village. The East Village is popular among young people, you will find many unique boutiques as well as trendy restaurants. Undertaking a food tour makes it possible to discover East Village and the best food places in the neighborhood.

Upper West Side, Manhattan
The Upper West Side is at the West side of Central Park. During my trip to New York City I visited the Upper West Side and I fell in love with the relaxed ambiance. When you spend a day in Central Park, make a detour to the Upper West Side to explore several restaurants and shops. In the Upper West Side you can find Columbia University, an Ivy League university and it is the oldest college in the state of New York.

Flat Iron District, Manhattan
This neighborhood is named after the Flat Iron building. The Flat Iron district is a small neigborhood located in Midtown Manhattan. Broadway crosses the Flat Iron district. In the Flat Iron district the Madison square and the Madison square park are located. Madison square park is one of my favorite places in New York City. When you're in New York City you should definitely visit the Flat Iron district. The Flat Iron Building is a famous building with a iconic contruction style.
Fun fact: In 1902 the Flat Iron Building was the first sky scraper in New York City

Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Williamsburg is a unique and popular neighborhood in Brooklyn. You can walk from Manhattan towards Williamsburg by using the Williamsburg bridge or you can take the subway or a cab. Williamsburg is a trendy and artistic neighborhood. The neighborhood has emerged enormously the past years and it attracts more and more tourists. On every corner you can find a trendy restaurant, a unique shop or artworks. Street art is everywhere in Williamsburg. Visiting Williamsburg is a must when you are in New York City, especially if you love art, music, food and unique clothing.

Coney Island, Brooklyn
Coney Island is located in South West Brooklyn. It is a peninsula with a funky ambiance. Along the beach you can find a theme park called Luna park, the New York aquarium and the Coney Island Amphitheater. The best moment to visit Coney Island is during the summer. I recommend to only visit Coney Island when you're staying in New York City for a longer period since it will take you quite some time to travel there. Coney Island is busy and therefore if you like a relaxed ambiance I do not advice you to visit Coney Island.
